Buyers Guide And Yearbook
Visit Website Right know I have two shows on my mind. Firstly, there’s the Achema. As you probably well know, this is a premier event for the chemical process industry and has a truly global reach. It really is a fine networking opportunity. I’ve only been at the show about 30 minutes but I’ve already met numerous old faces, have appointments scheduled for the rest of the week (or so it seems) and can tell you that the aisles are well packed with traffic. You can expect an extensive report with ditto photos in the August issue. Now for that other show I mentioned – in fact, none other than our own trusted conference and exhibition, Valve World 2004. The kick-off meeting (conveniently scheduled to take place at the Achema) has just concluded and I can tell you it was a really constructive afternoon. About eighteen valve professionals, representing end users, engineering companies, manufacturers and distributors were present and contributed vocally to the proceedings. In fact, there was a real determination to build on the success of the previous three shows. So members of the steering committee and advisory group discussed how to develop existing topics and incorporate new ones to “give more bite” to the show and send out a strong message on behalf of the assembled flow control community. Whilst it’s too early to report fully on the meeting (again, watch this space for details), I can indicate that some of the topics being considered include: inspection versus accreditation; the impact of ATEX on the valve industry; materials selection, reliability and durability; design performance verification requirements, etc etc etc. It was very interesting seeing how those present discussed these and other issues from their various disciplines (oil & gas, petrochemicals, CPI, power gen, etc) and cultural backgrounds (Europe, Asia, Middle East, USA, etc). Indeed, if this meeting is anything to go by, the next conference should be an extremely lively and constructive affair. In fact, there was only one point that was left unresolved: how to title the show! In 2002 the slogan “Flow Control for the Future” was selected. Whilst numerous ideas for 2004 were bounced around, the meeting was unable to define an all-embracing caption. So, what are your thoughts? If you have a good idea for a slogan, or can identify some key flow control topics for the future, or even have some suggestions for the 2004 Valve World show, we’d be delighted to hear from you. EcoAméricas
Visit Website EcoAméricas covers development and the environment in Latin America for an international audience of businesses, environmental organizations, public agencies and universities. Published by Fourth Street Press, an independent corporation in Santa Monica, California, EcoAméricas provides continuing, objective coverage at a time when reporting on Latin American environmental issues has been piecemeal at best--and too often biased by competing agendas.
